DSIP Nasal Spray
There is a naturally occurring substance called delta sleep-inducing peptide (DSIP) that helps people fall asleep. The hypothalamus, a brain region responsible for controlling appetite and sleep, produces most dopamine. In animals, DSIP encourages a specific type of sleep called delta sleep, which DSIP promotes. Circadian rhythms and DSIP concentrations are linked, providing evidence that DSIP plays a role in inducing sleep.
Unlike most other peptides, DSIP can travel freely from the bloodstream to the brain and is not degraded by stomach enzymes. There are synthetic versions of DSIP with a half-life of 7 to 8 minutes. It’s been studied to see if it can help with insomnia by lulling people to sleep. To be clear, this is a sleep aid, not a sedative, and should not be substituted for medically prescribed sedatives in any way.
