There is a naturally occurring substance called delta sleep-inducing peptide (DSIP) that helps people fall asleep according to research. The hypothalamus, a brain region responsible for controlling appetite and sleep, produces most dopamine. In animals, DSIP encourages a specific type of sleep called delta sleep, which DSIP promotes. Circadian rhythms and DSIP concentrations are linked, providing evidence that DSIP plays a role in inducing sleep.

Unlike most other peptides, DSIP research has suggested can travel freely from the bloodstream to the brain and is not degraded by stomach enzymes. It’s been studied to see if it can help with insomnia by lulling people to sleep.
